Another great case from The Survival Top 40 is the James Leininger reincarnation case. This story is sufficiently well known that I don't think I need to summarize it; anyway, Miles Edward Allen's excellent summary is readily available at this link (PDF).

Besides the strongly evidential value of James' statements about the plane he piloted, the ship he flew from, the names of his fallen comrades, etc., there are three aspects of the case that strike me as particularly interesting.

First, little James showed strong emotions when remembering his past life as a pilot. The whole episode began with James' nightmares, in which he struggled and screamed in bed. Whatever he was experiencing was obviously vivid and terrifying. Moreover, he showed flare-ups of righteous indignation that would seem more appropriate for a WWII flier than a two-year-old. As Miles Edward Allen recounts, when James identified his ship as the Natoma, his father replied that the name sounded Japanese. "Little James grew indignant and said no. It was American!" It's certainly credible that a patriotic serviceman would have that reaction; after all, it was the Japanese who shot him down. James, on the other hand, was probably too young to know or care about the Japanese through his own personal experience. Read more

Dowsers who claim to be able to locate archaeological features from maps are invited to enter a specially devised competition. Most challenges issued by paranormal "skeptics" are rigged in favor of the skeptic, but this one seems as if it might be fair.

Mention the word dowsing and most people will think of a chap in muddy wellies trudging around a farm with a stick, looking for a good place to sink a borehole, or a fey type in a tie-dye T-shirt wafting about looking for mystical ley lines.

The scene could have been derived from any suspense film. Manuel Delgado instinctively held on tightly to his television camera as we clutched our machetes. Our vehicle was being surrounded by a dozen ebony-skinned Haitians. The blancs, as they derisively call Europeans, are not welcome in Haiti and we had been warned that under no circumstances should we venture into the shanty towns outside Port-au-Prince where, we were told, "there exists a 90 per cent chance of being mugged." We ignored this sage advice, of course.

After endless minutes of waiting, our guide allowed us to emerge from the car. Monsieur Balaguer, an important bokor -- a voodoo high priest -- would allow us to visit his hounfor or temple. The hounfor consisted in a humble wooden shack whose center contained the peristyle, the indispensable central column of every voodoo ritual, by means of which the gods or loas descend to earth. A filthy light bulb and seven candles enabled us to see the disquieting form of Monsieur Balaguer, a tall man with sparkling black eyes, who covered his head with a Stetson.

While our guide stated all the arguments at his disposal in order to have Monsieur Balaguer allow us to film his "she-devil" and his "zombie", we were startled by a sudden blackout. The dirty light bulb was extinguished, plunging us into the shadows, illuminated only by the seven candles around the peristyle. Balaguer greeted his "she-devil" -- supposedly located behind a mysterious metal door -- by rapping on it a few times. From the other side, "something" responded with brutal blows against the door, causing the entire temple to shake. Suddenly we were told that the bokor had to consult the loas: we looked on as Monsieur Balaguer fell int a sort of trance, being "ridden" or possessed by Bravo, one of the loas who shares the lordship over death and cemeteries with Baron Samedi and Baron La Croix. Subjecting us to a sort of "trial," exchanging a curious combinations of handshakes to which we instinctively responded to, Balaguer drank rum through an ear as he smoked a cigarette through one nostril.

The fact of the matter is that in Haiti, Western patterns of logic become fragile in the face of the unpredictable, incomprehensible and irrational voodoo cult -- vodú in the native tongue -- which originates from the Fon language of Dahomey, meaning "deity" or "spirit." This is the precise nature of voodoo: a spirit that envelops Haiti, influencing each and every cultural or social manifestation of this small country, the poorest of the Americas. Read more

Alien lifeforms have not contacted Earth yet, the White House claimed over the weekend in response to petitions asking for information on supposed human interactions with extraterrestrials.

This story is actually rather unusual. As discussed in my post Spectrophilia: Sex with Ghosts, stories about sex between spirits and humans are not new, but this is the first I've heard of someone claiming to have witnessed spirits having sex with each other.

Continuing our celebration of the month of “Crocktober,” there are a multitude of new creepy films and other entertainment out there, designed to chill the bones and raise the hairs of the faint-hearted (in a fun way). For many, the terrors that can achieve this sort of thing remain in the realm of sewn-together man-things like Frankenstein; or maybe your favorite ghouls are the blood-sucking boogers, most of which are far-less cordial and romantic than Edward and his Twilight ilk.

While I enjoy all of these creepy critters too, my personal favorite remedy for the Crocktober Creeps involves the subject of creatures from the depths of the underground realm. Books and films like The Descent take the notion of mankind’s greatest fears into the recesses of a hypothetical underworld which, in truth, provides a unique allegory for the eternal struggle between mankind and the influences of darkness… perhaps no place gets any darker than the Hollow Earth.

Taking a more Fortean angle to all this, for most of us the serious treatment of any idea that there might be humanoid monstrosities lurking within cavernous corridors beneath the Earth’s surface is little more than lunacy. In many regards, I have to agree that, while I enjoy the films and other fictional portrayals that delve into the depths of this subject, we cannot take very literally the idea that subterranean non-humans exist. And yet, from time to time, there are indeed reports that “surface” (pun intended) which seek to illustrate that this very sort of thing actually is more than mere fiction. Read more

Tales of spirit lovers go back to the earliest days of storytelling. As author Rosemary Ellen Guily says in the article, some encounters can be explained by psychology, but not all. I know that my own couldn't be. And psychic Patty Negri's claim that you can fend off such encounters by just saying no, is the advice of someone who obviously has no personal experience with the phenomenon. If that works, the whole encounter was imaginary in the first place.

Halloween is without question the best of all possible holidays…there’s no family BS, no gift guilt, just tricks, treats and terror. But let’s face it…trying to squeeze something sexy out of it is like trying to take candy from Rosemary’s Baby.

Sure, you’ve got vampires and the standard hot pirate / gladiator costumes but very few real, old-fashioned ghost and monster stories are turn-ons. My standards are notoriously low but even I’m not aroused by rotting zombie flesh, Nosferatu’s rat face or the slow hand of Freddy Krueger. Unless you’re jumping into someone’s arms while watching one of these movies, sexiness and spookiness don’t often mix.

Unless, of course, you are having actual sex with an actual ghost.

Ghost Hunter Flashlight Phenomenon Explained? No

A YouTube video has surfaced claiming to debunk the flashlight phenomenon.

... The host on the "Viper Paranormal" YouTube video offered another explanation. In the video, he said the flashlight turning on and off is basically a short circuit that occurs at random. He said that many ghosthunters unscrew the backs of their flashlights to the point where the flashlight is teetering between staying on or off, then set it down to ask questions. He compares the effect to lights flickering on and off in a home.

"You're not getting enough voltage to that light and for a split second that light has no power. Well, it's the exact same thing with this flashlight. When this thing is unscrewed, it's teeter-tottering between having a connection. And basically you've got a short circuit, so sometimes this light's going to come on, and sometimes it's going to be off," said Mike St. Clair, the host of the Viper Paranormal YouTube series.

Theoretically, then, any vibration could cause the connection to be completed and the light to turn on.

This explanation would only satisfy the extremely gullible, or maybe someone who has never watched Ghost Hunters. On the show, the flashlight sits unlit and then slowly comes on in response to a question. Then it is turned off slowly at the request of an investigator. The flashlight does not flicker on and off.

This is quite typical of the paranormal "debunking" I've read: It either doesn't debunk what actually happens on the show or outright lies about what happens. None of us outsiders can know whether the show's producers and participants are honest, of course, Assuming no chicanery, however, this explanation doesn't debunk the flashlight phenomenon. B-2 Stealth Bomber and Other Aircraft Mistaken for UFOs

The is a good example of why UFO investigators must thoroughly explore mundane explanations for events. Most UFOs are simply unidentified or misidentified.

People in Missouri have been scratching their heads this month over a rash of UFO sightings that has them wondering if it's alien visitors, small plane experimental flying teams, the B-2 stealth bomber or all of the above.

So far, eyewitnesses in the "Show Me" state have been entertained by aerial displays of lights or orbs in the night sky, with the majority of sightings centered around the Kansas City area.

"With all the sightings, we've had a description of a triangle-shaped craft with multicolored lights surrounding it," said Debbie Ziegelmeyer, state director for Missouri MUFON, a chapter of the International Mutual UFO Network.

"We have information that the nearby Whiteman Air Force Base, 50 miles east of Kansas City, is under a yellow alert with training mission activities of the B-2 stealth bombers around the area." Read more

Air Force UFO Rules Vanish after HuffPost Inquiry

Was it just a coincidence that the Air Force deleted a UFO section from a personnel manual just days after a Huffington Post inquiry about it.

The military deleted a passage about unidentified flying objects from a 2008 Air Force personnel manual just days after The Huffington Post asked Pentagon officials about the purpose of the UFO section.

Before the recent revisions, the document -- Air Force Instruction 10-206 -- advised pilots, radar operators and other Air Force personnel on what to do when they encountered any unknown airborne objects. Now in the 2011 version, the reference to UFOs -- which simply means "unidentified flying objects," not necessarily spaceships with little green men -- has been eliminated.

What makes this so intriguing is that the U.S. government officially stopped investigating UFOs in 1969 with the termination of the Air Force's Project Blue Book. Read more

Many people look forward to the day that earth first contacts intelligent extraterrestrial life. A recent study by Penn State and NASA suggests that we should be careful what we wish for.

The probability that there is intelligent life somewhere other than earth increases as we discover more and more solar systems that seem capable of sustaining life. The thought that there might be extraterrestrial intelligences (ETI) somewhere out there excites us and has led to organized efforts to contact any such beings. We have sent space probes with data about us, and we transmit signals with a structured content (like symbols expressing mathematical formulae) to what we hope will be an intergalactic audience. The search for extraterrestrial intelligence project (SETI) is obviously based on the assumption that the possible benefits of contact with ETI outweigh the possible harms. But do they?

A recent study by researchers at Penn State and NASA provides a useful outline of the various ways that encounters with ETI could be beneficial, neutral or harmful to us. The study faces up to the most chilling possibilities: ETI might “eat us, enslave us, attack us,” inadvertently infect us with horrible diseases or just decide to eliminate us for the greater good of the universe. Frankenstein's Hour of Creation Identified by Astronomers

Mary Shelley had her idea for the novel Frankenstein in response to a challenge from Lord Byron to begin a ghost story. Scholars have accused her of fabricating how the story came to her, but astronomers have now confirmed her account.

Texas astronomers have used the light of the moon to highlight the hour of creation for Victor Frankenstein and his notorious monster – and defend the memory of their teenage creator, Mary Shelley.

The inspiration came in a waking dream between 2am and 3am on the morning of 16 June, 1816, during a stormy summer on Lake Geneva, they explain in the November issue of Sky and Telescope.

In the preface to the third edition of Frankenstein Shelley described a villa party: Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, herself and Byron's physician Polidori, and the famous challenge by Byron that each of them should begin a ghost story. She also described her repeated inability to come up with an idea until a moment of inspiration during a sleepless night in her dark room, behind closed shutters "with the moonlight struggling to get through". 800-Year-Old Remains of Witch Discovered in Italian Graveyard

The 800-year-old remains of a witch with seven nails driven through her jaw were discovered in Italian graveyard.

These are the 800 year old remains of what archaeologists believe was a witch from the Middle Ages after seven nails were found driven through her jaw bone.

The grim discovery was made during a dig on what is thought to be a 'witches graveyard' after another woman's skeleton was found surrounded by 17 dice - a game which women were forbidden from playing 800 years ago.

Experts say they believe the women are aged around 25 - 30 years old and were found buried in a simple shallow grave in the ground with no coffin or shroud. Read more

First Irish Case of Death by Spontaneous Combustion

An Irish coroner ruled that a man's death was caused by spontaneous combustion.

West Galway coroner Dr Ciaran McLoughlin said it was the first time in 25 years of investigating deaths that he had recorded such a verdict.

Michael Faherty, 76, died at his home in Galway on 22 December 2010.

Deaths attributed by some to "spontaneous combustion" occur when a living human body is burned without an apparent external source of ignition.

A man in the doorway of a hair salon. A voice on a static-filled phone. A 2:00 AM visit from a dying grandfather. They seemed real at the time; only later did those who experienced these "crisis apparitions" learn their loved ones were dead. Do loved ones bid farewell from beyond the grave?

Nina De Santo was about to close her New Jersey hair salon one winter's night when she saw him standing outside the shop's glass front door.

He was emotionally shattered, but De Santo had tried to help. She'd listened to his problems, given him pep talks, taken him out for drinks.

When De Santo opened the door that Saturday night, Michael was smiling.

"Nina, I can't stay long," he said, pausing in the doorway. "I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for everything."

They chatted a bit more before Michael left and De Santo went home. On Sunday she received a strange call from a salon employee. Michael's body had been found the previous morning -- at least nine hours before she talked to him at her shop. He had committed suicide.

The Search for Intelligent Alien Life... on Earth

So Davies suggests scouring our own planet, even our cells, on the off-chance that aliens visited and did what amounts to scrawling "We were here" on the walls. Alien Pig Born after UFO Sighting

An animal was trapped by hospital workers and then released. It may not be a chupacabra, but it's certainly a strange-looking animal.

Chain-smoking employees at Prince George's Hospital Center captured a hideous, hairless creature — a chupacabra, some say — in the woods where the exiled smokers congregate. And then, unbelievably, they let the rare specimen go, depriving it of years of torture at the hands of scientists.

They had spotted the animal — which has drawn comparisons to a deer, dog, rat, kangaroo, and fox — several times near the Cheverly hospital, and last Thursday decided to lure it into a cage with chicken and leftover Chinese food. Can Psychics Be Good for Your Health?

A phenomenon known as remote viewing, which claims to use psychic powers to "see" what is invisible to the naked eye, may have an intriguing role to play in health care.

Three months ago, Twitter hosted its first scientific experiment and invited users to help demonstrate the existence of psychic powers. Professor Richard Wiseman, of the University of Hertfordshire, recruited 7,000 volunteers via the social messaging service to investigate "remote viewing" (RV). A remote viewer is a gifted individual who claims to be able to "see" events in the past, present and future, and identifying distant locations.

The psychology professor, famed for his mass-participation experiments, which explore the curious science of everyday life, travelled to a mystery site in the UK, whereupon he sent a Tweet. Participants were asked to pinpoint his location by selecting it from a line-up of five photographs. As only 15 per cent of people correctly predicted Prof Wiseman's location – despite a 20 per cent probability – he pronounced RV to be a hoax.

Historically, however, governments have not been not so quick to condemn. During the Cold War, the American military spent $20 million (£12.2 million) on an RV project, conducting "psychic spying" missions against the Soviet Union for two decades. In 2001, the Ministry of Defence also investigated the potential of remote viewing, but the outcome is unknown. Read more

Saudi Arabia's "Anti-Witchcraft Unit" Breaks Another Spell

Loch Ness-Like Monster Filmed in Alaska?

The alleged sea serpent has a long neck, a horse-like head, large eyes and back bumps that stick out of the water.

A video from 2009 shows something mysterious moving across the surface of the sea that resembles an Alaskan version of the Loch Ness monster.

Some are claiming that the animal is a "Cadborosaurus," a type of reptile or lizard that got its name from Cadboro Bay, in British Columbia. They say that what's in the video is a sea serpent that dwells in the North Pacific and possibly other regions.

Accounts generally describe it as having a long neck, a horse-like head, large eyes, and back bumps that stick out of the water. Read more

Did UFO Cause Power Failure at Nuclear Missle Base?

Did a UFO cause a power failure at a nuclear missile base? Missile technicians claim UFO sightings coincided with an October power outage at Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming.

When Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming lost control of 50 nuclear, inter-continental missiles last October, officials said a communication failure between the control centre and the weapons was to blame.

Don't resign yourself to chupacabra nightmares just yet. Even Jack Crabtree, the supplier of photos to The Facts, his local Texas paper, doesn't think that he witnessed a real chupacabra, or "The Bigfoot of Latin Culture," as dubbed by CNN during a previous chupacabra sighting.

According to a report by ABC News, the retired wildlife biologist and his wife Linda saw the slow-moving, hairless creature wandering by a creek at the back of their house on the Fourth of July. They took photos, and Crabtree sent them to the newspaper, jokingly calling it a Chupacabra. Read more

Roswell Debris Proven to Be Extraterrestrial

No one knows how much debris was picked up and kept by the first people to stumble upon the 1947 crash of a UFO in Roswell, New Mexico, but debris from the crash continues to be discovered. Frank Kimbler, a New Mexico high school geology teacher, found some pieces of debris and had them tested. He says the test proved that the debris was extraterrestrial.

A teacher at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell may have discovered the first scientific evidence of manufactured debris made on another planet. Furthermore, this debris was found near the location where pieces from an alleged flying saucer were discovered outside of Roswell in 1947.

Frank Kimbler teaches high school level Earth Sciences and college level Geology at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. He says he has always had an interest in UFOs, and actually had his own unusual sighting in his twenties. So when he moved to Roswell, he decided to put his expertise to the test and take a shot at investigating the most famous UFO incident of all time, the crash at Roswell. Read more

Nottinghamshire Police Witchcraft, Ghost and UFO Reports

The Nottinghamshire (UK) police released figures on the number of paranormal reports they have received over the past six years. Apparently, people are still accusing their neighbors of witchcraft across the pond. Witchcraft  reports outnumbered ghosts and UFO reports put together by a wide margin.

Nottinghamshire Police received more than 80 reports of ghosts, witchcraft and UFO sightings in the last six years.

The force revealed there were 46 reports of witchcraft, three UFO sightings and 34 incidents involving ghosts.

Ch Insp Ted Antill said there were calls where officers did attend the scene of "ghost sightings".

He confirmed the UFO sightings were "exclusively" Chinese lanterns. Read more

Simon Cowell and paula Abdul had a spooky stay at the Stoneleigh Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

Someone call the Ghostbusters! Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul spent a night in a haunted hotel in Dallas. Judge L.A. Reid checked out the same day he checked in because he reportedly got "spooked out." Wimp!

The judges were to stay at the Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa while they filmed auditions for the US version of 'The X Factor.' However, they had no idea that creepy ghosts live in the walls of the hotel. Read more

Apparation of Entire City Appears over Chinese River

An apparition of entire city appeared over the Xin'an River  in China.

Residents in a Chinese city have been stunned after a giant mirage of a 'ghost city' towered across the skyline.

The apparition appeared earlier this month after heavy rainfall and humid conditions along the Xin'an River in Huanshan City in East China.

Tall buildings, mountains and trees appeared to rise up through the ghostly mist that had descended over the river at dusk. There is usually nothing buy sky across the horizon. Read more

Imagine, if you will, an 8 foot giant hairy ape that weighs at least 500 pounds, has been known in ancient Native American folklore for centuries, and might possibly be the greatest cryptozoological enigma ever. It is known as Bigfoot, or Sasquatch north of the Canadian border, and it remains one of the true great mysteries of our time.

This creature roams the densest forests of the Pacific Northwest, is nocturnal, has a call that sounds like a baby crying, a woman screaming or unearthly howls unlike anything ever heard before, leaves footprints that a normal man could nearly fit two of his inside, and has been seen by virtually thousands of people. It has been filmed walking along a creek bank (and although controversial, has been authenticated by a number of research institutes as the real thing), has had hair and feces samples collected, has had voice analyzation done to it's calls only proving the sounds are coming from no known identified animal, and to top all of this off, the county of Skamania in the state of Washington, has a law on the books forbidding anyone from killing it! Yet orthodox science says that this beast cannot possibly exist because there has been no actual body to examine. However, if this was a civil trial to prove the existence of this subject before a court of law, a verdict of existence would have come forward without the jury ever leaving the room! How strange can this be?

The crux of all this is that the scientific community needs to have a dead body before it recognizes a new species of animal. This is a long held practice that goes back to the early days of scientific research, back when people, hundreds of years ago, were telling tales of all sorts of beasts, with nary a one of those ever having even a smidgen of reality connected to it. Regardless, everyone was sworn to be real and they were duly accepted as such. Gargoyles, griffins, mermaids, boogie men, all were fairy tales made up to either scare or be scared of. There were no genuine physical traces or evidence of any kind, nothing except hearsay and a will to believe. Needless to say, that is all that these creatures were then and now, hearsay. Exposed: Anonymous Source for Latest Roswell Theory

Blogger Anthony Braglia has discovered Annie Jacobsen's anonymous source for the latest Roswell theory. His identity does not lend credibility to the story, nor does Annie Jacobsen's prior reporting. I wonder why this story is emerging now so long after the end of the Cold War, and is it by accident or design?

In Annie Jacobsen's new book, "Area 51," she reports than an anonymous source told her that the Roswell Incident was actually perpetrated by the Soviet Union in order to mislead US intelligence. According to Jacobsen, the source told her that deformed children created by Nazi scientist Dr. Joseph Mengele had been used in a craft of unexplained design that had been crashed near the Roswell Army Air Field for reasons that are not clearly explained in the book. Also unexplained is how the Soviets could have penetrated so deeply into American airspace with a small aircraft described. At the time, only the largest long-range bombers had sufficient range.

Ms. Jacobsen based her Roswell story on an "anonymous source," but UFO blogger Anthony Braglia was able to determine who he was and to interview him about why he would want to spread this story. Read more

Latest Roswell Theory: UFO Was Russian Craft

Investigative journalist Annie Jacobsen presents a new theory of the Roswell incident in her book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base: a UFO did crash at Roswell, but it wasn't from outer space.

The world famous Roswell "incident" was no UFO but rather a Russian spacecraft with "grotesque, child-size aviators" developed in human experiments by Nazi doctor and war criminal Josef Mengele, according to a theory floated by investigative journalist Annie Jacobsen.

Her book, "Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base," is about the secretive Nevada base called Area 51. One chapter offers the new Roswell theory, citing an anonymous source who says Joseph Stalin recruited Mengele and sent the craft into U.S. air space in 1947 to spark public hysteria.

FBI Memo Proving Aliens Crashed at Roswell Released Online

It's ironic that the U.S. government cover-up of the 1947 Roswell, New Mexico, crash may be undermined by that same government. In a 1950 memo posted online due to a Freedom of Information Act request, FBI agent Guy Hottel reveals that an Air Force investigator had stated that "three so-called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico."

A bizarre memo that appears to prove that aliens did land in New Mexico prior to 1950 has been published by the FBI.

The bureau has made thousands of files available in a new online resource called The Vault.

1949 FBI Memo Reported UFO over Utah

Freedom of Information Act requests have revealed that FBI agents sent an urgent memo to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover in 1949 about a UFO sighting in Utah. Even more interesting, in 1950, Guy Hottel, the agent in charge of the Washington Field Office, sent a memo reporting that an Air Force source said that flying saucers had crashed near Ros­well, N.M., and had been recovered.

On April 4, 1949, FBI agents in Utah sent a cable marked “urgent” to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. It said an Army guard at the Ogden Supply Depot, a Logan policeman and a Utah Highway Patrol officer in Mantua each saw from miles apart a UFO — which they said exploded over Utah.

Under the title “Flying Discs,” the cable said they “saw a silver colored object high up approaching the mountains at Sardine Canyon” that “appeared to explode in a rash of fire. Several residents at Trenton … [reported] seeing what appeared to be two aerial explosions followed by falling object.”

That and other documents show the FBI was investigating whether UFOs were real, and it figured they could be. Such documents are now available in “The Vault,” vault.fbi.gov, a revamped FBI website for documents that have been released through the Freedom of Information Act and have been recently or often requested. Triangle UFOs are a type of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) generally described as enormous, silent, black triangular objects, hovering or slowly cruising at low altitudes over cities and highways, usually at night and making no attempt to evade detection. Triangle UFO cases are on the rise nationally this past month and California Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) investigators are piecing together their most credible reports as they search for a pattern, according to national reporting at MUFON and California MUFON State Section Director Steve R. Whatever Happened to America's Psychic Spies?

Whatever happened to America's psychic spies? As a matter of fact, they're still around and still doing remote viewing.

On the last day of June 2009, a 23-year-old US Army private, Bowe Bergdahl, carrying only a compass and a bottle of water, disappeared from his unit’s forward operating base in eastern Afghanistan.

Why and how he had done this wasn’t clear. But the risk that he would fall into the hands of the Taliban was obvious. As soon as his absence was discovered, senior US military officials at Bagram Airbase in Kabul sprang into action. They scoured the airwaves and the nearby terrain with the latest surveillance technology, sent out patrols to try to find Bergdahl, and even distributed leaflets to Afghans in the area, warning them to inform the army if they saw him.

And eventually, they called John Alexander.

Alexander was a retired army colonel, living in Las Vegas. In the 1980s, as a staff officer at the Army’s Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), he had been one of the insiders in the Pentagon’s remote viewing programme. The programme had been shut down in the mid 1990s – largely for political reasons, some said – and its trained psychics had gone on to conventional assignments or into retirement. Now the military, out of other options, wanted to see if remote viewers could help.

It was not an official project, just an informal request. “They were saying, we’ve tried everything else, why not this?” recalled Alexander.

He agreed to do what he could. And, with some difficulty, he did arrange, via a third party, for several trained remote viewers to target the missing soldier. In accordance with the usual procedure, each viewer was told merely that there was a target of interest, and that he or she should provide whatever impressions came to mind.

Will Earthbound Comet Fulfill 2012 Prophecy?

Russian astronomer Leonid Elenin discovered the innocuous little comet on Dec. 10, 2010, at International Scientific Optical Network's robotic observatory near Mayhill, New Mexico.
